HPCⁱ uses supercomputers and computer clusters to solve advanced computation problems. Today, computer systems approaching the teraflops-region are counted as HPCⁱ-computers. For HPCⁱ computer clusters constitute an affordable and expandable solution, as they can be built by connecting several regular desktop computers. Latest multi-core CPU chip architectures allow HPCⁱ to be performed on a single PC or a small cluster of PCs.
